MOM GOES TO JAIL FOR SENDING KIDS TO A BETTER SCHOOL?

These are the things I hate about the law.  This mother is now going to JAIL for sending her children to a school outside of her district.  She lives in Akron Ohio and sent her daughters to a better, SAFER school district by using her father's address.  What pisses me off is, that was a move to help protect her children's future.  Now I know that tax money may not permit these things, but I don't like the double standard.  Akron kids like Lebron James were sent to safer and better schools because of their sports talent and no one cared about tax money.  Why is it that they had to hire a private investigator for this situation?  The worse piece of news comes at the end of the video.  I'll let you check it out.  This video hurt my heart. I commend this woman for doing what she felt she had to do to give her children a chance.  What do you think about this? Was this punishment too severe?

Battle Rappers: Let's Talk Numbers!

The battle rap community is growing. Views are rising and it's audience is changing. There was a time that in order to gain recognition, you had to travel the country. Now with the help of youtube, a battle rapper can become "famous" rapping in his backyard. Rappers like, Murda Mook, Serious Jones, Loaded Lux, Young Miles and X Factor were in the first wave of battle rappers to benefit from youtube. Even before youtube was the place to be SMACK DVD's were being SOLD and distributed nation wide.

While all this was going on I was against what I had ignorantly deemed "rapping for free". I turned down SMACK & Fight Klub invitations left and right. Why? Because I thought I was above the organizations? Nah.  At the time I was being paid by major television networks to battle in front of millions and rapping "for free" in a record store didn't seem like a good business decision--at the time.  If I had to make that decision again today, I would do the same.

SKIN BLEACHING: Are You Comfortable In Your Own Skin?

As a kid having a scar on my head bothered me and caused me to find ways to cover it.  Braids, hats, bandannas etc were my only defense from the ridicule, jokes and laughter.  It took me a long time to become comfortable in my own skin again. I ran across this video of Jamaicans bleaching their skin and initially thought to myself  "WTF are they doing to their bodies?". Then I realized how many of us try to change things about ourselves. Is there real a level as to how extreme you can be?

Grind Time: Battle Rap Comes (Back) to Detroit

Battle rap is a major part of the foundation known as hip-hop; it is a way for rappers to gain respect (and keep it) while showing off their lyrical talents.
In a matter of days, The Shelter will pulsate with rappers itching for respect and bragging rights as rap battle league Grind Time Now presents Detroit 187 (not to be confused with the ABC show).
"Grind Time is one of the largest battle leagues in the world; it's going to be the first time we have this many battle rappers from this many different states," said Quest Mcody, who will be hosting the battle and is definitely no stranger to the rap battle circuit.
Mcody was approached by Grind Time before to put together a Detroit battle, but the timing was never right; instead, he referred rappers like Moe Dirdee and K Reed to join the Grind Time family, both of whom will be battling on 1/15.
